This group teaches children mindfulness techniques.
COURSE DESCRIPTION & REGISTRATION
8 weekly sessions.
This group teaches children mindfulness techniques. Mindfulness can help improve concentration, regulate emotions, and build self-confidence. Mindfulness also provides the opportunity to learn about our physical experiences and enhance the ability to self-soothe and relax. The practice of mindfulness promotes kindness, patience, and gratitude.
For many children with Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder, mindfulness training has been shown to improve attention, focus, memory, self-understanding and self-acceptance. In addition, mindfulness helps to alleviate anxiety by focusing on the present rather than worrying about the future.
Goals of the group include:
give tools to be able choose options other than anger, fear, anxiety, stress and disconnectedness
encourage positive emotions and self-esteem
improve emotional and cognitive awareness
increase focus on present situations
The group consists of 8 sessions and is limited to 8 participants. Sessions are facilitated by a Registered Psychotherapist and a Social Worker.
